What to Expect at a Decor Diva Consult

What to Expect at a Decor Diva consult

I often have people that are surprised when I come to their home at the process that we go through at a consultation. I think that this is partially due to watching shows and not understanding that there is a lot of production that goes into any design show, and that it doesn’t have to be that complicated, or expensive.

Once we have chatted on the phone, and you know that my service is what you are looking for, we simply book some time. I book by the hour, not by the project, and many clients just start there. Oftentimes one hour is all that a client has budgeted for, and that gets them up and running. Although I do have many design packages on my website, most clients simply book an hour. I am happy to say that I also have had many repeat clients over the years, as well as most of my business coming from word of mouth referrals.

When I arrive at the home, I do a client intake form. This not only gives me some information about the basics of the client and their home, but also lets me understand more how they use their spaces, what their daily life involves, and what their dream space might look like. We walk through the home, so I get an understanding of how they use their spaces, and what finishes are in other rooms that are not changing. Then, after that we tackle whatever problem they are needing support with. Sometimes it’s just a colour consult, where they need help picking paint colours, and other times it’s a whole design consult, where they are thinking of a larger scale renovation, and they want a second set of eyes to talk through their initial ideas.

Another question that I get is if I have been able to work through the Pandemic. The answer is “yes”. I was actually surprised at how well I transitioned to doing online consults, and how much success my clients had. Moving forward this is a great option for me, as I have since had clients from Winnipeg and Vancouver Island, so I now can offer my services outside of my travel parameters. It’s great to help people all across the country.

This is the dated rec-room, before we got in there. The old flooring was left in place, as we suspected asbestos, and were planning on carpeting anyways (read my IG post about asbestos, to see how it is safe to let it be). One thing we loved was the…

Whatever you might be considering, as far as home improvement, it is always beneficial to spend a little on a designer, when you are going to be spending a lot on a project. This, in the end, can always save you money.
